Edition KPM+ ONE MILLION BY ULI AIGNER

KPM - Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Berlin and Uli Aigner are cooperating as part of the Austrian artist's ONE MILLION project. She started in 2014 with a clear vision and has since pursued the utopia of modeling a million porcelain vessels by hand by the end of her life. Matthias Wemhoff, director of the Neues Museum in Berlin, calls it an archaeology of the present. The digital object history is included for all numbered artifacts.

Each of the now more than 10,000 ONE MILLION vessels is formally based on a template and is created on behalf of a person, organization or institution. Uli Aigner reinterprets the original vessels - the free-turning process creates individual new editions based on the original. Conversations, architecture, stories, historical images or novels also inspire the shapes. The finished objects are then sold, exchanged or donated, making them accessible to the most diverse milieus.

For the KPM+ ONE MILLION BY ULI AIGNER Edition, Uli Aigner searched through the manufactory's archives and found what she was looking for in Trude Petri and her minimalist design language, which was so characteristic of the 20th century. “Trude Petri's simple shapes, especially those of the URANIA service, immediately appealed to me. The base, the round edge as an accent between the base and the wall, the conical shape - I wanted to set all of that in motion,” says Uli Aigner.

For the KPM+ ONE MILLION BY ULI AIGNER Edition, the artist has translated a total of 150 cups and 150 bowls from the URANIA collection, designed by Trude Petri in 1938, into her artistic aesthetic.

The result: a hybrid of Trude Petri and Uli Aigner. The artist begins by turning a modified plaster model of the original. The upper part is free-turned and remains unglazed in order to create an exciting interplay between rough and glazed haptics. The manufacturing process can thus be read in the shapes and surfaces.

Each vessel in the KPM+ ONE MILLION BY ULI AIGNER edition is engraved with a number, the artist's signature and the KPM Berlin stamp in the form of the royal blue scepter. The unique pieces are located on the digital world map via the website www.one-million.world.

"I was given the chance to immerse myself in the way KPM works, which has been perfected for more than 260 years and has captured the spirit of the times. Combining this with my own work logic was as challenging as it was interesting," says Uli Aigner.

The KPM+ ONE MILLION BY ULI AIGNER Edition (mug and bowl, EUR 150 each) is now available in all KPM stores and in the KPM online shop.
